The Precentor Martial's Notes

This simulation exists to answer one question honestly: what is a weapons package worth, and what does it cost to carry? It is built for our Com Guards: for the training halls, where an Adept should learn why the launcher on her 'Mech behaves as it does; for procurement, where a Precentor signing for a Division's refit ought to know what the tonnage buys; and for the doctrine cells, who must decide what each Level I and Level II are for before deciding what to hang on them. Every specification here is drawn from published technical readouts and ROM's own archives. Every performance figure is computed analytically, not empirically or statistically sampled. Where the Order's own data is incomplete, the entry says so rather than guessing.

Not currently simulated

The Blessed Order does not pretend to completeness. The following equipment and battlefield tactics are not accounted for in the simulation:

Physical attacks and physical weapons. While inarguably effective, a fist is not a weapons package.
One-shot launchers popular with Periphery bandits but largely ineffective for serious warfare.
Arrow IV artillery and its munitions.
Thunder munitions and the minefields they lay.
Flak ammunition. Deliberately omitted: against a BattleMech it is inferior to every alternative, and its proper work is against aircraft and infantry, which lie outside this study.
Inferno missiles, and all heat delivered to a target. The Plasma Rifle shows only half of what it does, and the Plasma Cannon shows nothing at all.
Heat-dissipating and impact-resistant armour. The first awaits target heat; the second answers only physical attacks and collisions.
Heat as a constraint. Although net heat generation is simulated, the tool does not account for buildup due to continuous firing. A commander must supply that discipline themselves.
Called and aimed shots. The simulation reports damage to a Mech, not to a location a gunner has chosen.
Targets other than a standard BattleMech. Vehicles, infantry, battle armour, ProtoMechs, aerospace and structures are outside the scope of this study.
The iNarc's utility pods: ECM, Haywire and Nemesis, which hinder rather than harm.
Probes, ECCM and the wider electronic-warfare arms race. This simulation asks but one question of the electromagnetic spectrum: is the attack jammed, or is it not.
The consequences of critical damage. The odds of finding something vital are reported; what breaks when you do is not.

What comes next

Priority for the coming cycle is correcting bugs, cleaning up the interface, and adding the Arrow IV artillery launcher. This will be followed by a revision of the ComScore weighting against a wider set of doctrinal baselines. A more extensive collection of pre-set BattleMech loadouts, as seen on Tukayyid and beyond, is under consideration to facilitate analysis of (and calibration against) real-world militaries of the Inner Sphere. Finally, a future revision of the tool will aim at increasing the transparency of ROM's evaluation and the underlying technical assumptions.
